Sonnwendbühelalm
Challenging but thoroughly worthwhile round tour into the Rofan mountains
The tour starts in Münster and initially leads steeply uphill along the Steinapfelweg trail through dense forests and forest paths. Your stamina will be put to the test right at the start, but the anticipation of what is to come will spur you on.
After around three hours and around 1,000 m of ascent, you will reach the Bayreuther Hütte, where you can take a well-earned break. Enjoy a traditional Tyrolean snack and refresh yourself with a cool drink while you let your gaze wander over the surrounding peaks.
Strengthened, you can continue your hike by walking for approx. 1 hour to the Sonnwendbühelalm without any significant elevation gain. The path is beautiful and the view and the tranquillity of the mountain landscape reward your efforts.
After another hour, you will reach the Sonnwendbühelalm, which is not staffed, where you can take another break. The fresh mountain air will replenish your energy reserves before you make your way back.
The return tour takes you on a different route back to Münster, where you can once again enjoy magnificent views and untouched nature.
This tour is definitely not for beginners, but for experienced mountain enthusiasts looking for a challenge, it is an absolute must. Enjoy the beauty of the Tyrolean Alps and experience unforgettable moments on this challenging hike in the heart of the Rofan mountains.
