From Brixlegg to the Berggasthof Holzalm

Above Brixlegg, to the east of the Alpbach Valley entrance, the terrain undulates rising gently up to Gratlspitze at 1,893 m. The lovely hamlet of Zimmermoos enchants with its beautiful landscape dotted with scattered farmhouses and the well-tended meadows. In between the farms, a public road with little traffic leads uphill until just before the Berggasthof Holzalm at 1,452 m.

The road through Zimmermoos is a popular biking route and the Berggasthof Holzalm awaits the hungry and thirsty cyclists. Not only can one enjoy the hospitality at the Alm, but is treated to beautiful views towards the Rofan Range and the Brandenberg mountains. Shortly before the Alm, looking eastward provides for spectacular views of the Wilder Kaiser. From the alpine pasture you can cross the Bischofer Saddle (1,500 m) into the Alpbachtal and return to Brixlegg on secondary roads.

Into the Alpbachtal

After replenishing your batteries you can continue your trip to Alpbach. The Bischofer Saddle, the crossing into the Alpbachtal running from Gratlspitze westwards, is quickly reached by bike. Cycling along the Bischofer Saddle (1,500 m) provides for beautiful views towards the Inn Valley and Reith im Alpbachtal with its lake.

Beautiful descent to Alpbach and back to Brixlegg

From the Bischofer Saddle, the trail descends in serpentines over open alpine terrain. You will pass the Bischofer Käsalm (1,350 m) where, if desired, you can stop for something to eat and drink and cycle on until you almost reach Alpbach. However, you do not cycle into the village, but follow the signs for Reith and Brixlegg. Away from the main road into the Alpbachtal, which runs on the other side of the valley, you keep rolling passing quaint hamlets on the way to Brixlegg.

Soon after crossing the Alpbach Stream at Alpsteig, make sure you don't miss the turnoff to the right down to Mehrn (a narrow gravel road; don't enter Reith). Following a beautiful ride, this shortcut brings you back to Brixlegg.
