Rattenberg
Austria's smallest town
Rattenberg, located in the Alpbachtal holiday region, proves that the true size of a town does not depend on its surface area. Although only 500 people live on just under eleven hectares, the small town between the Inn River and the Schlossberg is bursting with cultural treasures. In addition to its medieval charm, the town also has all kinds of sights to offer. Come and see for yourself!
Magical Christmas magic
In the weeks running up to Christmas, Rattenberg is traditionally always worth a visit. At the Rattenberg Advent, the town's Christmas atmosphere is characterised by quiet contemplation, something you often search for in vain between the crowds and flashing lights at other Christmas markets. So look forward to a romantic evening by candlelight with a glass of fragrant Rattenberg Advent wine, surrounded by creations of the finest local glass art!
Rattenberg during AdventWhere glass art is at home
Rattenberg is also known as the glass town. This designation has a long history, as glass art in all its forms has long been a traditional craft in the region. To get a deeper insight into the multifaceted craft of glassblowing and the associated work steps, we recommend a visit to one of the numerous glass shops, such as Kristall Glas Kisslinger. If you feel like it, you can even try blowing glass baubles yourself during a course - a great experience for the whole family.

The Augustinian Museum in Rattenberg is not only worth a visit for its historical art treasures, but also has the only church tower in the whole of Tyrol that is open to the public. This half-timbered tower offers a first-class view of medieval Rattenberg and delights with its historic bells and baroque tower clock. Admission is free of charge with your Alpbachtal Card.

One of the most beautiful view points in Rattenberg can be found high up on the Schlossberg. It is only a 15-minute walk from the town centre. You will be rewarded with a magnificent view over the roofs of Rattenberg and of the Inn Valley. Once at the top, you can also admire the castle ruins including the legendary Biener tower. In summer, the Schlossberg is also the venue for the Rattenberg Schlossbergspiele. Exquisite theatre performances are preformed in an atmospheric ambience.

Our tip: Interested in something sweet to go with your cup of coffee? We recommend a traditional apple strudel from the Hacker confectionery. If you order in advance, master confectioner Reinhard Hacker will personally demonstrate how to prepare the pulled apple strudel. To top it all off, there is a tasting afterwards!
